Sugar-Coated
Sugar-Coated
Sugar-coated is my fashion collection inspired by Japanese hikikomori and otaku culture. Drawing inspiration from my personal experience growing up, it tells a fictional story of a group of misfits who, under the fear and pressure of society, are forced to put on sugary facades. As they grow, they realize they don’t have to be boxed in and conform to societal standards—they can break free and fight for a place in this world. The sugar coating they put on will eventually wear off, and they won’t be so easy to swallow anymore.
With this collection, I designed the video in the style of fighting video games, intending to metaphorically represent my fight with mental health and social marginalization, while also paying homage to my journey and the Japanese anime/manga culture that heavily influenced my youth.

The logo and visual design I created for the lookbook of my collection “Sugar-Coated.” I tailored the lookbook into an unconventional game card format to align with the concept and style of the garments I designed.
